Kindergarten Cutoff Date Information

June 1, 2013

The Kindergarten Readiness Act changes the kindergarten entry date from Dec. 2 to Sept. 1 so that children enter kindergarten at age 5.

The roll out for the change in entry date is incremental, rolling back one month each year until the 2014-2015 school year.

A child shall be admitted to a kindergarten maintained by the school district at the beginning of a school year, or at a later time in the same year if the child will have his or her 5th birthday on or before one of the following dates:

2011–2012 school year = Dec. 2

2012–2013 school year = Nov. 1

2013–2014 school year = Oct. 1

2014–2015 school year = Sept. 1
(and each school year thereafter)
